At ClubMates Travel, our top priority has always been to ensure that our passengers have safe, enjoyable, and fully supported travel experiences. We’re committed to keeping things real, transparent, and ensuring you always know where you stand—especially when it comes to making the most of your NDIS funding.
Why We're Pausing STA for some respite options
Recently, there has been a lot of media attention and public concern around the misuse of NDIS funding. In the travel world, this particularly relates to Short Term Accommodation (STA) or Respite. Unfortunately, some providers have taken advantage of STA funding by offering misleading information, finding loopholes, and incorrectly claiming line items. This has led to significant overspending, which has caught the attention of the NDIA and the broader community.
As a result, the NDIA is tightening its rules around STA claims. Many providers, including those like ClubMates who have always operated with integrity, are now facing increased scrutiny. This has led to a situation where STA claims are being audited more rigorously, and some claims are even being rejected outright.
Given this environment, we have made the difficult decision to ensure we get paid by asking all participants to get a letter from the NDIA to confirm they have spoken to their NDIS planner prior to departure on their getaways and provide us with that letter until further notice. This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly, so please read on to understand why.
Protecting You from Financial Risk
Our concern is that if we continue to process STA claims under the current circumstances, some of these claims might be rejected by the NDIA. This could leave our passengers at risk of having to pay significant out-of-pocket for expenses that the NDIS will no longer cover. We don’t want this to happen to you, which is why we’re taking this proactive step.
We understand that this decision may impact your ability to travel with us in the near term and this means you may need to save more to cover travel expenses, but our goal is to protect you and ensure that any travel you undertake with us is fully supported and risk-free.
What This Means for You
• If you have STA funding: We recommend speaking with your NDIS Planner to discuss what valid options, they recommend.
• If you’re planning to travel: Please reach out to our disability travel consultants for helpful tips. We can discuss your options and explore ways to use your NDIS funding without concern.
Skip Respite, Experience Real Adventure
We understand that traditional respite often means a change of environment, but it can sometimes feel like moving from one set of four walls to another. Our getaways give you much more. We are about breaking free from those limitations, offering experiences that truly help you grow, connect, and explore the world in ways that no one else does.
At ClubMates Travel, we remain committed to providing these experiences for our passengers. We’re actively working with the NDIA and other industry experts to advocate for fair and reasonable support that allows everyone to continue enjoying the benefits of travel.
