Which NDIS funding category or "bucket" does travel support come from?
Supports during travel are funded from the Core Supports budget, specifically under social and community participation. STA is too risky, so we focus on claiming from core supports.
How does this work if holidays aren't funded by the NDIS?
The NDIS doesn’t fund the holiday itself, but it does cover the support services provided during the trip, like personal care, transport, and social participation, making travel possible.
How have the recent NDIS changes affected your services?
Our services continue as normal because we claim core supports used during travel, not holiday costs. The recent changes ensure NDIS funds are used correctly, weeding out dodgy providers. The only adjustment we’ve made is ceasing to claim funds under STA and returning to our pre-covid process to focus on core supports only.
Are your trips funded under STA?
Due to recent changes and concerns with NDIS rejecting STA claims, we no longer claim trips under STA funding. Too many claims have been knocked back, and this puts participants at risk of having to repay from their own pocket. Instead, we use NDIS funding from core supports and other relevant areas. This means passengers may pay more out-of-pocket for travel costs, but it avoids the risk of funding rejection and ensures we stay a compliant, trusted NDIS provider.
Can you customise itineraries to match specific participant goals, medical needs and accessibility requirements?
Yes, we tailor each trip based on your participant’s specific needs. During our consultation, we assess their mobility requirements, medical needs, and medication schedules. We then map activities to their NDIS goals, whether it’s building independence, improving social skills, or daily living skills. We can identify a group itinerary that fits, or if more flexibility and choice are needed, we can create an individual trip that’s fully customised to meet their goals and preferences.
How do I set goals in my participant’s plan to enable them to travel?
Goals should focus on capacity building, social participation, and independence, such as improving decision-making or increasing social interaction, to align with the supports provided on a trip. Download our Fact Sheet (anchor link to jump back up to web form for PDF download) above to access examples of goals you can set with your participants.
My participant’s plan isn’t up for review for another 1-2 years, so I cannot revise their goals. Can they still claim supports to travel?
Yes, even without a review, we can align existing goals with the supports offered during travel, ensuring they still meet NDIS criteria for funding.
How transparent are the costs, and how are the travel costs separated?
We provide a clear breakdown with two invoices—one for travel costs (paid upfront by the participant) and one for NDIS supports with a breakdown of each line item to claim (claimed after the trip). This ensures full transparency so you know exactly what you are paying for We use the NDIS price guide for our pricing.
How do I involve a participant’s plan manager in the booking process?
We work closely with plan managers during the consultation and booking phases, providing detailed quotes, breakdowns, and coordinating with them on all funding and claim matters. When booking a trip for a participant, let our team know their Plan Manager details so we can ensure they are informed of the upcoming claims on their plan.
How do you stay compliant as a registered provider? What documentation do you provide?
As a registered NDIS provider, we follow strict compliance with NDIS guidelines, including adhering to the NDIS price guide. We maintain an internal system for staff training, policies, and procedures, and conduct annual internal audits to ensure compliance. We also engage a third-party auditor to review our processes and ensure we’re prepared for NDIS registration audits. After each tour, we provide post-trip video documentation with photos and footage, showing what participants did and the supports they received, ensuring full transparency for the NDIA and participants’ families.
