At the recent Disability Connection Expo in Brisbane, Alicia from ClubMates Travel had a chance encounter that turned into a powerful conversation with Rod from Tag 5. Their chat revealed something deeply important: supported holidays aren’t just a break from routine — they can be life-changing experiences that help people with disabilities grow in confidence, build friendships, and feel a new sense of freedom.

The Power of Group Activities for People with Disabilities

Rod describes camps as the perfect combination: while participants learn new skills and build friendships, families also receive much-needed respite. From bodyboarding to jet skiing, participants start out unsure — but by the end, they’re confidently pushing their limits. As Rod puts it, “They wouldn’t get on at first — now they just want to go faster and faster.”

It’s a familiar story for us at ClubMates. We’ve seen time and time again how inclusive, accessible group travel helps people come out of their shells, connect with others, and experience life beyond four walls.

Taking It Further: An International Supported Holiday

One of Tag 5’s most memorable supported holidays was a trip to Chile — a dream that turned into reality through careful planning, teamwork, and a lot of heart. The participants experienced snow for the first time, practiced Spanish, and explored cultural differences.
There were challenges — from accessibility issues to managing medications and navigating a new currency — but these were handled with care and foresight. The rewards? Eye-opening. Participants came home with more confidence, a deeper appreciation for Australia, and a broader view of the world.

NDIS Supported Travel That Builds Life Skills

This story shows what NDIS supported travel is truly about: helping people build independence, social confidence, and real-world skills in fun, hands-on environments. Whether it’s feeding animals at camp or trying new food overseas, these supported holidays tick the boxes for many NDIS goals.
For many families, it’s hard to know where to begin or what’s even possible. That’s why working with the right NDIS travel provider — one who understands the system, the supports, and the people — makes all the difference.

You Deserve to Get Out There

Whether it’s a local camp, a weekend getaway, or an overseas journey, supported holidays are more than just trips — they’re tools for personal growth. If you or someone you support is looking for group activities for people with disabilities, we invite you to discover what’s possible.
